We knew as soon as we saw the golden caliber statues standing desks on the Volkwagen stand at the Los Angeles Auto Show: the Volkswagen Passat is the Motor Trend Car of the Year.
Next to the North American Car of the Year named every year in Detroit, Motor Trend's nod is the most sought-after in the auto industry. And, frankly, we're surprised by the choice -- not because the Passat isn't a great car, which it is, but because it's really difficult to stand out in a segment dominated by titans Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
