Audi A1 Sportback in 2012

Audi has released details of the A1 sportback, a five-door, long-tailed hatch on its smallest platform - and it'll be here in the second quarter of 2012 in three petrol and two diesel variants.

It's the same length as the three-door at 3.95 metres overall on an identical 2.47 metre wheelbase, but is 6mm wider and 6mm taller at 1.75 metres and 1.42 metres respectively, which provides a little extra room for rear-seat passengers, which number two in the standard version, although a three-seater rear bench is a no-cost option.


The front styling is derived directly from the three-door A1, but with a longer, more elegant roofline and sculpted LED tail lights.

The bonnet and rear hatch wrap around the body, the shoulder line encircles the whole car and the flowing roof with its integrated spoiler curves crisply into a steeply sloped C pillar. It's also available with a contrasting roof line in one of three special colours, as well as with a sporty S line exterior package.


The passenger cell is reinforced with very strong hot-shaped steel, to increase rigidity and reduce weight - the base 1.2 TFSI model weighs only 1065kg.

The Audi A7 is probably the only member of the so-called "five-door GT" segment to pass through the Car Tech garage and be universally liked by the editors. So we were interested to see what the automaker would do with the sport-tuned 2013 S7, which was revealed at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. Predictably, the automaker didn't stray too far from the A7's formula. You know what they say, "If it ain't broke..."

Externally, the S7 differentiates itself from the A7 with aluminum covers for the side mirrors, 19- or optional 20-inch wheels unique to the S, subtly more aggressive bodywork, a dual exhaust system with quad tips, and, of course, the S7 badges. Sharp-eyed enthusiasts may notice that the S7 sits 10mm lower than the model upon which it's based thanks to a sport air suspension system.

In the cabin, there are new sport seats wrapped in Valcona leather with diamond stitching and the same Audi MMI system with Internet connectivity and Google Maps integration that helped the A7 earn our coveted Editors' Choice award.

Chevrolet has released the official specifications and pricing of their new Chrevrolet Camaro ZL1. The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe price will start at $ 54,995, including Performance Traction Management and Magnetic Ride suspension.

The heart of the Camaro ZL1 is a supercharged 6.2 liter engine rated at 580 horsepower and 754Nm of torque making it the most-powerful production Camaro ever. The LSA features a Roots-style blower with an efficient four-lobe rotor set and compact intercooler.

The ZL1 also features a standard dual-mode exhaust system, with vacuum-actuated valves in the exhaust pipes for a refined exhaust note at low speeds as well as a free-flowing system for peak performance. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Ingolstadt’s famous, or Audi, has just unveiled its latest iteration of their superb R8 for the North American market here at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show: the 2012 R8 GT Spyder.

As you’d expect from the name and by viewing the pictures, this latest R8 is a drop top. Pegging itself as a step above the standard R8 V10 Spyder, the R8 GT Spyder is powered by the top of the line R8’s Lamborghini-based 5.2L FSI V10 that produces 560hp and 398 lb-ft of torques. Mated to a six-speed R-Tronic sequential semi-automatic gearbox.

Only a small total of 333 R8 GT Spyders will be produced with just 90 hitting our shores.

TC Concepts regarding their brand new Toxique aerodynamics kit for the Audi R8. The kit is a plug & play installation, bolting onto the existing structure of the Audi R8 to create a new look without messy welded mounts. This makes installation a speedy process with a reduced likelihood of problems.

The full aerodynamic kit includes body parts in the companies RS design. These include a new front bumper and grille, side skirts, rear side panels to widen and increase air flow to the engine and a rear bumper with integrated diffuser. As we reported before, a set of stainless steel exhaust tips are also included. These measure 165mm and bolt over the top of the existing exhaust system.

First Audi TT-RS Comes To The U.S.

Audi RS lineup has officially returned to America as a veteran racer Don Istook took delivery of a 2012 TT-RS.

Ford has released new information on the EcoBoost 2012 Explorer.

For comparison, the performance of the explorer with the 3.5-liter V6 17 mpg highway mpg city / 25.

Pricing information was not released, but the model is expected to begin arriving in dealerships shortly.

2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Rreview

The emergence of the classic Lincoln's new hybrid version was announced at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Las Vegas held each January at that city's convention center in Nevada. Ford is making a late jump into electric and hybrid car sales--still at 1.8 percent of last year's sales this is a viable offering. Perhaps the popularity of Ford's new battery operated hybrid and electric vehicles will bring back jobs and eventually better wages. It certainly seems likely that the 2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid will play a vital role among car collectors and those just seeking value and comfort.

GreenGT LMP H2 to Race at Le Mans in 2012

The car is powered by a 300kW fuel cell and carries 12 liters of compressed hydrogen gas at 10,000 psi. It's pre-race prototype has a 100kW fuel cell for demonstration and testing purposes. It will sport 300kW by race time.

Six time Le Mans driver and 2-time winner Christian Pescatori will be driving the car for the race. The H2 will be made through solar electrolysis, so the hydrogen will be emissions-free during the race.

At first glance it is quite obvious that the new Edge has received a thorough reworking of the entire front fascia, as well as changes to the rear of the vehicle. The new Edge enjoys a more upscale look and feel, along with simplified controls via new interfacing technologies.
